The Multicultural Business Coalition, which brings together 50 chambers of commerce, took the project for five municipal supermarkets with subsidized discounts of 30% to court, warning that it could cause "irreparable harm" to hundreds of small businesses

In a confrontation that tests the limits of socialist intervention in the economy, a massive group of small business owners from New York has turned to the courts to put a stop to the collectivist agenda of the mayor's office. The merchants have filed a formal lawsuit with the Supreme Court of the state, in Manhattan, against the communist and Muslim mayor, Zohran Mamdani.

The legal action seeks to definitively halt the proposal to open five municipal supermarkets distributed throughout the city, warning that its implementation will cause "irreparable harm" to the local economy and free enterprise. The lawsuit has been led by the Multicultural Business Coalition, an organization founded six months ago that brings together 50 chambers of commerce from various ethnic groups.

The basis of the legal action is compelling: the merchants claim that the administration of Zohran Mamdani flagrantly violates the New York Civil Rights Law and the Constitution of the state, which strictly prohibit discrimination.

The legal document states: "Municipal grocery stores deny equal protection to the members of the collective lawsuit -hundreds of merchants, many of them small businesses-, by being unable to offer discounts that significantly deviate from the practices of globalized commerce, thus violating New York's civil rights laws".

The economic assault is carried out through the use of public money. This controversial democratic socialist mayor's plan projects that by the year 2029, five municipal supermarkets will be fully operational, offering a massive 30% discount on basic basket products.

Small merchants denounce the perverse contradiction of this welfare model: their resources are confiscated through taxes to directly subsidize government stores that will unfairly compete against them.

Furthermore, the president of the multicultural coalition board, Frank García, reported that the establishment of these stores is being done arbitrarily, without a prior study of their economic impact, violating the same reasons for which corporations like Walmart have historically been denied permission to protect local commerce.

The destructive impact of this centralized planning has extremely specific geographical objectives. The first establishment of the state network will open in the former 'Marketa', located at 116th Street and Park Avenue, right in the Latino sector of El Barrio in Harlem.

This intrusion directly threatens the survival of immigrant communities that operate on slim profit margins. According to Frank García, the damage will be devastating: "When Costco opened in El Barrio, businesses saw a 30% drop in sales".

The opening of this government store will directly affect about 150 Mexican businesses, 25 Korean supermarkets, and around 200 Arab bodegas and minimarkets located between 106th and 125th Streets in the East Side of the city, as well as four Dominican supermarkets on the West Side.

Before resorting to the courts, the merchants attempted to meet with Zohran Mamdani to discuss, but their request for a meeting was denied.

The tragedy of this state interventionism is personified in the imminent bankruptcy of small family businesses. A merchant affected in East Harlem has expressed with anguish that the opening of a municipal supermarket planned right across from his establishment will destroy the legacy of his entire life, leading to the bankruptcy of a family business that has operated with effort and honesty for 25 years.

This assault on private initiative demonstrates how the socialist agenda pushed by Zohran Mamdani crushes the very immigrants it claims to defend, destroying the American dream of those who have prospered through their own work and not through the handouts of the State.
