Lionel Messi misses the double date of South American Qualifiers due to injury
The Rosario star won't be present at FIFA due to muscle discomfort he suffered after the match against Atlanta United
Lionel Messi has been left out of the Argentina National Team's squad for the upcoming South American Qualifiers against Uruguay and Brazil due to muscle discomfort. This decision was made to prevent the injury from worsening and becoming a tear, allowing "La Pulga" to recover in the United States and not be available to coach Lionel Scaloni for this double Qualifier date.
The Rosario star had finished Inter Miami's match against Atlanta United with discomfort and will not travel to the country to join the rest of the delegation. After the match, an MRI determined that he has a small injury in his left adductor.

The Argentine number 10 returned to the starting line-up after being out for several matches. Last week he played 40 minutes in a match against Jamaica's Cavalier for Concachampions, coming off the bench. In his MLS match, Messi played the full 90 minutes again, however, this was on a synthetic grass field, something that could have affected the injury he ended up having and that ultimately sidelines him from the National Team.
With his absence confirmed, the absentees from the National Team's pre-list would be as follows: Lionel Messi, Gonzalo Montiel, Francisco Ortega, Giovanni Lo Celso, Alejandro Garnacho, Enzo Barrenechea, Claudio Diablito Echeverri, and Paulo Dybala. That said, the final list of drafts by Lionel Scaloni to face the double date of South American Qualifiers is:
- Goalkeepers: Emiliano "Dibu" Martínez (Aston Villa), Gerónimo Rulli (Olympique de Marseille), and Walter Benítez (PSV)
- Defenders: Nahuel Molina (Atlético Madrid), Juan Foyth (Villarreal), Cristian "Cuti" Romero (Tottenham), Germán Pezzella (River Plate), Leonardo Balerdi (Olympique de Marseille), Nicolás Otamendi (Benfica), Facundo Medina (Racing Club de Lens), and Nicolás Tagliafico (Lyon)
- Midfielders: Enzo Fernández (Chelsea), Rodrigo De Paul (Atlético Madrid), Exequiel Palacios (Bayer Leverkusen), Alexis Mac Allister (Liverpool), Máximo Perrone (Como), Giulano Simeone (Atlético Madrid), Benjamín Domínguez (Bologna), and Thiago Almada (Lyon)
- Forwards: Nicolás González (Juventus), Ángel Correa (Atlético Madrid), Nicolás Paz (Como), Julián Álvarez (Atlético Madrid), Lautaro Martínez (Inter), and Santiago Castro (Bologna)
