President Javier Milei announced during the national broadcast this Thursday that the Government will increase the resources allocated to the Ministry of Defense to advance the construction of an Integrated Naval Base in Tierra del Fuego, with the aim of strengthening Argentina's presence in the South Atlantic and enhancing the country's strategic capabilities.
The initiative is part of a broader defense policy for national sovereignty presented by the president during his message dedicated to the Malvinas issue. As he explained, the project will also include an improvement in telecommunications capabilities, deemed essential to increase Argentina's presence and operational capacity in a region of growing geopolitical importance.
“The Base will allow Argentina to become a central logistical hub in the South Atlantic and strengthen our geopolitical projection in a strategic region for the country's future,” Milei stated during his speech.
The announcement is part of the Government's proposal to recover a long-term strategic vision in defense matters. The President asserted that protecting Argentine sovereignty requires strengthening the Armed Forces and developing capabilities that allow for the defense not only of national territory but also of natural resources, critical infrastructure, and maritime and aerospace spaces.
