As is now customary, President Javier Milei once again used soccer to explain the direction of his administration. In a conversation with Antonio Laje for A24, the president illustrated a comparison between his government's mistakes and the errors that occur in a decisive match, using as an example the Boca–Milan 2003 final in Japan.
"I usually give an example that I love, which is the Boca vs. Milan final in Japan," Milei began, recalling that Sebastián Battaglia missed his penalty in that Intercontinental Cup shootout. When a journalist asked how Battaglia felt after the miss, Milei quoted the answer he chose as a lesson: "Have you ever taken a penalty in a world final?"
With this, the head of state illustrated his stance on decision-making and mistakes: "Penalties are missed by those who take them. Those who don't take them don't miss them. And those in the stands, even less so." He added: "When you act, there's a chance you'll make mistakes. If you do a lot, there's also a chance you'll make many mistakes."
