The president Javier Milei published a strong message on social media in defense of José Luis Espert, following numerous media and political operations that indirectly linked him to an alleged financier connected to drug trafficking during the 2025 legislative elections.

The statement comes after U.S. Justice dropped the drug trafficking charges against Federico “Fred” Machado.

Through his account on X, the president stated that the episode was part of a deliberate maneuver to harm La Libertad Avanza and harshly criticized sectors of journalism and politics.

The message from Javier Milei

“They DESTROYED José Luis Espert's reputation, pushed him into ostracism, and tried to turn him into a criminal through an INFAMOUS POLITICAL AND MEDIA OPERATION,” he expressed.

In his post, Milei argued that for weeks unfounded accusations were made against Espert, with the aim of publicly discrediting him. “For weeks they SMEARED him, DEFAMED him, and publicly condemned him without evidence, just because he defended the ideas of freedom and they found him uncomfortable,” he stated.

The President's message comes after U.S. Justice accepted a declaration of innocence related to the case that had been used to attack the economist and candidate of La Libertad Avanza in the electoral context.

“But finally, U.S. Justice accepted the declaration of INNOCENCE regarding the drug trafficking charges against the person used to hit and smear José Luis Espert,” he maintained.

In that context, Milei questioned the credibility of the accusations that circulated during the electoral campaign. “Now I ask: Who the hell thinks that, at 58 years old and after a successful life of work in the private sector, Professor Espert enters politics to launder drug money?,” he wrote.

The President insisted that the allegations had a direct impact on the public image of the libertarian leader and emphasized that it was an unjustified attack.

“They SHATTERED the life of an innocent man. They ruined his life, destroyed his political career, and sought to undermine one of the few who has been defending the ideas of freedom in Argentina for MORE THAN 20 YEARS,” he expressed.

Additionally, he pointed out those who spread the accusations, motivated by political interests. “And all for what? For MEANNESS. For operators. For political and media trash that lives off destroying honest people,” he noted.

In another part of the message, Milei demanded public apologies, although he doubted that would happen. “Many journalists and many politicians should issue PUBLIC APOLOGIES. But we all know they WON'T DO IT, because they live to operate, lie, defame, and smear,” he asserted, adding that even if it occurred, it would not have the same visibility as the original accusations.

The post concluded with a strong criticism of manipulative journalism and a reaffirmation of his support for Espert. “That’s why we don’t HATE JOURNALISTS ENOUGH. With José Luis Espert, ALWAYS on the side of truth and freedom. LONG LIVE FREEDOM DAMN IT...!!!,” he concluded.
