The Government of Javier Milei made 2026 official as the "Year of Argentine Greatness", a decision that was formalized through a decree published during the early hours in the Official Gazette.

The measure applies to the entire National Public Administration and seeks to express, from an institutional standpoint, the political and economic course that the Argentine president's administration consolidated during the last year.

In accordance with the provisions, all official documentation of state agencies must include the phrase "Year of Argentine Greatness". The obligation will apply both to the centralized administration and to decentralized agencies and autonomous entities that depend on the national State. In addition, the decree includes a formal invitation to provincial governments and to the government of the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires to join the initiative.

The decision was established through decree 56/2026, signed by President Javier Milei and Chief of Staff Manuel Adorni. In the grounds of the text, the Executive Branch set out the reasons that led it to institutionalize the designation of the coming year as part of a symbolic and political strategy linked to the transformation process driven by the libertarian administration.

As detailed in the recitals, the Government maintained that throughout 2025 the reconstruction of the Nation's pillars deepened, which made it possible to ensure "greater freedom for all Argentines". In this context, the decree highlights the progress of structural reforms aimed at changing the functioning of the State and the country's economic course.

The official text emphasizes that these reforms were "aimed at stabilizing the macroeconomic situation, reducing state bureaucracy, cutting unproductive burdens, and ensuring that public action is effectively oriented toward fulfilling its essential purposes".

In the reasoning of the decree, there is also a reference to "the institutional, economic, and social crisis that Argentines suffered for decades". As stated, that situation made it necessary to move forward with a process of structural transformation intended to overcome historical problems and undertake a different model of political and economic organization.

In this regard, the document keeps that the course adopted made it possible to promote changes "that strengthen the rule of law and guarantee the effective exercise of rights and freedoms". This path made it possible to "lay the foundations for stability and growth" and to project a new stage of consolidation and development.

The decree also states that the central objective of this stage is to place the Argentine Republic once again "on the path of prosperity", after years of instability and economic crises. Along these lines, the Government highlighted the importance of consolidating conditions that allow progress toward sustained growth.

Finally, among the concepts underlined by the Executive Branch is economic and legal predictability, identified as a key factor for development. The text states that predictability and stability are "necessary conditions to promote investment, boost productivity, and consolidate sustained growth for the benefit of the country's economic and social development".
