The government of Javier Milei announced on Wednesday that it had received seven proposals for the concession of 741 kilometers (460 miles) of national highways, a key project to modernize the country's road infrastructure.
Presidential spokesperson Manuel Adorni communicated the news through his account on the social network X, highlighting that this process corresponds to the first stage of the concession plan.
The highways included in the tender are national routes 12, 14, 135, A-015, 117, and 174 (Rosario-Victoria Bridge), which cross the provinces of Buenos Aires, Entre Ríos, Santa Fe, and Corrientes.

"Seven bids were submitted in the tender for the first stage of the national highway concession. These cover 741 kilometers (460 miles) of national routes 12, 14, 135, A-015, 117, and 174 (Rosario-Victoria Bridge), which cross the provinces of Buenos Aires, Entre Ríos, Santa Fe, and Corrientes," the spokesperson announced.
According to Adorni, this step puts an end to a "model of waste, corruption, and abandonment of public works" and paves the way for a new stage where "the private sector will do everything it can do better than the State."
The project corresponds to the so-called Mercosur Route, a strategic artery that connects Argentina with Brazil and Uruguay, and registers a high flow of cargo and passengers, which reinforces its importance for regional trade.

The tender documents establish that the concession period will be between 20 and 30 years, depending on the magnitude of the works and the investment proposed by the interested companies. All contracts include the comprehensive operation of the road under a toll system.
Financing will be backed by the Bank for Investment and Foreign Trade (BICE) through a guarantee and funding trust scheme, which is optionally available to the awarded company. According to BICE, the fiscal surplus achieved by Milei's government allows private investments to be backed in works that are essential to strengthen the country's productive, commercial, and logistics infrastructure.
With this progress, the Milei administration seeks to mark a change of course in public works, boosting private participation in strategic projects to promote connectivity, competitiveness, and regional integration.
