The Minister of Economy, Luis "Toto" Caputo, announced through his official X account that the National Public Sector (SPN) achieved a primary surplus of $1,556,864 million and a financial surplus of $390,301 million in August 2025, thus maintaining strong control over public accounts.
The official highlighted that the primary surplus recorded in the month increased by almost 30% in real terms compared to August 2024, as a result of a 6.4% reduction in primary expenditures.
Despite this spending adjustment, there was growth in key social items: social benefits increased by 2.9%, with a notable 9.1% rise in retirements and contributory pensions, while transfers to universities rose 9.3% year-on-year, showing that the fiscal adjustment did not affect priority social policies.

So far this year, during the first eight months, the SPN achieved a primary surplus equivalent to 1.3% of GDP and a financial surplus of 0.4% of GDP, consolidating a healthy fiscal outlook and strongly contrasting with the financial deficit recorded in August 2023 under Kirchnerism, which reached $384,505 million, which, adjusted for inflation, would be equivalent to more than $1,720,000 million.
Caputo stressed that these results demonstrate the commitment of Javier Milei's government to fiscal order, a pillar he described as indispensable for macroeconomic stability and the improvement of Argentinians' quality of life.

According to the minister, the fiscal discipline implemented since last year made it possible to reduce the tax burden on productive sectors and, in 2025 alone, return resources to the private sector through measures such as the elimination of the PAIS tax and the reduction of export duties and import tariffs, estimated at around 1.4% of GDP.
"In the face of attempts by part of the political spectrum to break fiscal balance, the government will continue to guarantee order in public accounts," Caputo stated, emphasizing that the consolidation of surpluses not only represents an accounting achievement, but an essential tool to sustain stability and economic growth, which makes it possible to reduce poverty and improve the lives of millions of Argentinians.
