President Javier Milei inaugurated today the Museum of the Horse Grenadier Regiment “General San Martín” and highlighted the role of the Armed Forces in defending Argentine sovereignty.

During his speech, the president referred to the measures promoted by his Government regarding the defense of the Falkland Islands, their surrounding seas, and their natural resources.

“When the homeland is in danger, everything is permitted, except not defending it,” Milei stated during the event, asserting the need to adopt concrete actions in response to challenges related to national sovereignty.

The President also linked the legacy of José de San Martín with the actions of Argentine soldiers during the Falklands War. In this regard, he stated that “that same lineage, that same courage, was awakened again more than a century later in the trenches of our Falkland Islands.”

Milei also pointed out that the Argentine soldiers who fought in the islands, including ten members of the Horse Grenadier Regiment, were “the heirs of that epic, firmly representing the legacy of San Martín's values.”

During the ceremony, the president also emphasized the recovery of a historical function for the Regiment. “This year our Government settled a historical debt,” he affirmed, referring to the fact that the Grenadiers themselves returned to guard the curved saber of General San Martín.

As Milei emphasized, the saber represents “the most powerful material symbol of the Argentine nation” and serves as a reminder that “that freedom is non-negotiable.”

The new Museum of the Horse Grenadier Regiment features more than eight rooms and presents a journey through two centuries of the military unit's history. The space addresses various moments from its creation on March 16, 1812, through the baptism of fire at San Lorenzo and the preparation of the Army of the Andes at El Plumerillo, to the crossing of the Andes and the liberation campaigns.

The proposal brings together heritage objects, documents, uniforms, original paintings, models, stage designs, audiovisual recreations, and interactive spaces aimed at presenting the history of the Regiment.

In another part of his speech, Milei insisted that the defense of sovereignty must translate into actions and not be limited to declarations.

“San Martín did not liberate half a continent with speeches; he did it with effective action, crossing the mountain range, with logistics, with discipline, and training with great effort a military body that did not exist at the time,” he stated.

Attending the event were the president of the General San Martín Grenadiers Foundation, Bettina Bulgheroni; the Secretary General of the Presidency, Karina Milei; the chancellor Pablo Quirno; the Minister of Defense, Carlos Presti; the Chief of the General Staff of the Army, Oscar Santiago Zarich; and the head of the Horse Grenadier Regiment “General San Martín,” Cristian Castellanos.
