The multimillion-dollar cost of the Wanda Nara - Mauro Icardi scandal: Will the people of Buenos Aires pay for it?
The Buenos Aires government had to invest millions in an operation that could have been avoided
The family dispute between Wanda Nara and Mauro Icardi, which captured media attention due to its high profile, also resulted in a significant expenditure of public resources.
According to approximate calculations made by journalist Marina Calabró, the judicial operation carried out at the Chateau Libertador building had a direct cost for the Buenos Aires City Government of AR$3,200,000.
This figure doesn't include indirect costs, which means the amount would be even higher if other factors such as administrative expenses and social impact are considered.

An expensive operation for the State
The conflict that began as a family matter led to the intervention of multiple state agencies, including the Judiciary, City Police, SAME, and the Public Guardianship Ministry.
With a duration of more than ten hours, this family reunification operation mobilized a large number of personnel and resources.
The prorated salaries of the officials involved, the fuel used in official vehicles, and the maintenance of patrol cars and ambulances were some of the costs calculated for the State.

In addition, officials such as Fernanda Mattera from the Public Guardianship Ministry, Judge Adrián Hagopian, and several City Police officers participated in the operation. The intervention of a SAME ambulance and other specialized teams further contributed to the high cost of this deployment.
Social and community impact
The cost of this operation was not limited to direct economic expenditure. Residents of the exclusive Chateau Libertador also saw their routines disrupted due to the constant presence of police vehicles and journalists in the area.
Moreover, the intensive use of elevators and the tension caused by the situation affected the daily lives of the residents. Some of them expressed concern about the impact on the building's prestige and the possible decrease in the market value of the properties.
The expenditure also had a negative outcome for the minors involved in the conflict, who were exposed to tense situations that included shouting and confrontational scenes.

Journalist Calabró questioned the dissemination of images that could have violated the rights of the children, recalling that Argentina is a signatory to international treaties for the protection of minors.
A conflict that affected the State and society
This judicial operation has had repercussions beyond the legal and media spheres. Calabró pointed out that the expenditure could have been allocated to more social purposes, such as supporting people experiencing homelessness or community kitchens.
"We're funding these intrafamily messes of millionaires," said the journalist, emphasizing that the money spent by the City Government could have been used for more urgent social causes.
The conflict may not be over yet, since Wanda Nara faces unpaid fines and Mauro Icardi is reportedly preparing a complaint for disobedience. This could lead to more judicial expenses and a greater burden for taxpayers.
However, the journalist concluded that this entire process could have been avoided simply by complying with the court order, questioning the involvement of so many resources in a private dispute that affected the finances of Buenos Aires residents.
This case, which began as a personal conflict, reflects the consequences of high-profile scandals involving public figures, whose social and economic costs are not always adequately measured.
