Mirtha Legrand was hospitalized at the Mater Dei sanatorium due to the bronchitis she has been suffering from since last week. The 99-year-old host had canceled the recording of her last show on medical advice and was replaced by her granddaughter, Juana Viale.

According to LA NACION, the diva is in good spirits and maintains phone contact with her acquaintances. The hospitalization was arranged as a precaution, so that professionals can monitor her progress and conduct routine tests.

According to the information published by the outlet, Legrand has not shown any fever so far. The doctors decided to keep her under observation, and it was expected that she would remain hospitalized during the day and spend the night at the health center.

During the program aired on Saturday, Juana Viale explained her grandmother's absence before presenting her outfit. “Here I am putting on the shirt because grandma has the flu. We send her a huge kiss, she is recovering with her teas, her natural ointments,” she commented.

The host immediately clarified, in a humorous tone: “Just kidding, all medication, all”. She then added: “I send a big kiss to my grandmother. I hope to do it well. Today I have all the energy, all the vitality to do it.”

The history of bronchitis in April

In April, Legrand also experienced a severe flu episode that led to bronchitis. At that time, her doctor advised her to stay a few more days at home to recover.

“It was bronchitis and very severe. I was given many antibiotics”, she later recounted on LAM, in a conversation with Ángel de Brito. The host linked that episode to an outing to the Teatro Lola Membrives to see Rocky, although it was her own interpretation of what happened.

This condition kept her away from her show for approximately three weeks. Unlike the current hospitalization, that recovery took place at her home.

Over the years, Mirtha has gone through other health episodes that required hospital attention. In July 2014, a fall in the garage of her building caused her to fracture her tibia and fibula, for which she had to undergo surgery at Mater Dei.

In May 2019, she underwent surgery for an abdominal adhesion and spent 48 hours in intensive care. Later, in September 2021, she suffered a coronary obstruction and had two stents placed.

Her last surgical history mentioned in the report corresponds to May 2023, when a pacemaker was implanted during a scheduled procedure. On that occasion, the host herself had conveyed calm before the procedure: “I prepare with good humor, I don’t feel any pain, I am perfect”.
