Elections in Misiones: the provincial results after the errors in the vote count

The events of June 8 left questions after technical problems and delays in the official broadcast

The provincial elections on June 8, 2025, in Misiones were marked not only by the close competition between the main political forces but also by serious issues in the reporting and dissemination of official data. Delays in the provisional vote count and the lack of transparency in the initial results raised alarms among party representatives and part of the electorate, casting doubts on the legitimacy of the process.

According to preliminary data released by the provincial computing center,  the Frente Renovador de la Concordia ranked first with 28.6% of the votes, followed by La Libertad Avanza with 21.89%, and in third place, Ramón Amarilla from the Por la Vida y los Valores party, with 19.12%. However, the reports were uploaded slowly and without the necessary breakdown by locality, which caused uncertainty about the consistency of the count.

Complaints about failures in the electoral system

Several opposition leaders expressed concern about failures in data transmission. From La Libertad Avanza, they reported that the partial results took hours to be published and that the transparency scheme required by the provincial Electoral Code was not followed. In addition, some media outlets and citizens reported errors in the display of records and discrepancies between telegrams and data on the official website.

"These types of irregularities affect people's trust and cast doubt on the validity of the democratic process," said libertarian candidate Diego Hartfield, who secured a key second place in the legislative race.

A key election at the local level

The contest decided 20 regular seats and 7 alternate seats in the Misiones Chamber of Deputies, in addition to renewing councilors in 10 localities and electing the Ombudsman in Oberá.  The process was split, as stipulated by the provincial government, to avoid interference with the national campaign and focus the debate on local issues.

In total, twelve lists participated, with prominent figures such as Sebastián Horacio Macías (Frente Renovador), Héctor "Cacho" Bárbaro (Partido Agrario y Social), Olga Mónica Gurina (Confluencia Popular por la Patria), and new emerging groups such as the Libertarian Party of Martín Arjol.

Questions that demand answers

The combination of multiple lists,  a tight distribution of votes, and problems in the reporting system resulted in a contested electoral process. Although no serious incidents were reported at polling stations, technological shortcomings and the lack of clarity in the preliminary data highlight the need to review and modernize the vote counting system.

Civil organizations and local observers demanded that the final vote count be published with all records, and that access to information be guaranteed for auditors, poll watchers, and citizens.

When will Misiones return to the polls?

After this provincial election,  the next electoral event will be on October 26, 2025, when Misiones will vote in the national elections to renew 3 national deputies and their respective alternates, as part of the legislative renewal of the National Congress.
