Mogetta: Córdoba must reduce the size of the State and cut expenses to lower taxes

The former National Secretary of Transportation criticized Martín Llaryora's administration, which increased the Property Tax this year and is far from reducing public spending

The Secretary of Transportation of the Nation, Franco Mogetta, targeted the government of Martín Llaryora, stating that it must reduce public spending in order to collect lower taxes.

"Córdoba needs to reduce the size of the state and cut spending to collect lower taxes and more reasonable rates," he said on Monday.

It is worth noting that today it was announced that Mercado Libre will close its offices in Córdoba due to high municipal rates.

Meanwhile, Mogetta highlighted the results that President Javier Milei's economic plan has been showing.

Among others, he pointed out  the elimination of the deficit in just one month, the decrease in inflation, and the drop in poverty. He also referred to his work in Transportation, where he focused on cutting expenses for companies and redirecting subsidies to users.

"We inherited a 5-point deficit and what was normal or expected was to reduce it by one point per year, and  it was eliminated in the first month of government due to a cut in public spending of more than 30%," he said in an interview with Universo TV.

"There have been many achievements that the country had pending in a very short time, especially in the economic sphere. What has been achieved in a year and a half is perhaps what other governments could not achieve in more than 50 years, such as controlling inflation or reducing the deficit. Out of the last 124 years, Argentina had a deficit in 113 of them. In the first month of government, this was corrected under Milei's administration," he explained.

The adjustment, focused on the public sector

He also emphasized that  the adjustment that was made was a political decision and not the result of a crisis "which means that the adjustment was largely aimed at the public sector and not the private sector."

"Logically, there are situations to improve, such as those of retirees and many groups that have been making efforts, but  it should not be overlooked that this macroeconomic reordering has also reduced poverty by 20 points compared to the same period last year," he indicated.

According to the possible La Libertad Avanza candidate in the October elections, these achievements were possible "as a result of remaining firm with the three anchors of the Government's economic program, which are fiscal, monetary, and exchange rate policies."

"Logically, we hope that, once this course is consolidated, the benefits will begin to be seen in the sectors that need them most," he added.

Mogetta cut subsidies to transportation companies

Mogetta had a prominent role as Secretary of Transportation of Córdoba and later in the National Secretariat of Transportation.

During his time at the national level, the official took on the task of reorganizing the area by focusing subsidies on users instead of companies, as had been done previously.

"We cut the funds that companies received directly based on parameters related to their own activity: which company traveled more kilometers, which one consumed more fuel, which company declared more employees on the payroll, etc. And we began to pay more attention to user parameters, that is, those with lower purchasing power, the most vulnerable groups who needed more direct assistance," he said, highlighting the implementation of the SUBE card in places that had been "discriminated against."

"The SUBE has existed since 2009, and since then, governments of different political stripes, not only Kirchnerism but also PRO, never brought that tool to Córdoba, which ultimately is what puts Córdoba users on equal footing with users in the Federal Capital or anywhere else where SUBE is available," he expressed.

Mogetta and the October elections

When asked about the October elections, Mogetta stated that his main mission is "to broaden the base of actors who have not yet managed to approach the space" and clarified that the person who will decide the final structure and integration of the lists will be the General Secretary of the Presidency, Karina Milei.

"There is not much time left, so in the coming weeks there will surely be news. In July, the president, Karina, as well as Gordo Dan and Javier Negre, owner of La Derecha Diario, are coming to Córdoba for Derecha Fest, and perhaps there will be some news, but for now there are no specific names," he said.

He also referred to what many members of La Libertad Avanza highlight, about going with "pure" candidates.

"What Gabriel Bornoroni said is indeed a bit of the DNA of the space:  adding people who do not come from traditional politics or who are not well known in politics, more ordinary people, from the street. But there is constant discussion. Nothing has been defined yet," he added.

Mogetta on De Loredo and Juez

When asked about a possible incorporation of Rodrigo De Loredo or Luis Juez, Mogetta stated that the space doesn't close the door to anyone and explained it as follows: "It must be clear what the President said, who is the leader of the space, and we should not go against what he says, which is tabula rasa, regarding anyone who wants to join to defend the ideas of the space."

"Let them show that they want to defend the ideas of freedom without pretensions or expectations.
Because, if the expectation of anyone, regardless of their name, is whether I go in such a place, or if I am given such a candidacy, then I think we are entering a very, very difficult terrain to reach an agreement," he concluded.
