A 20-year-old illegal Moroccan immigrant was arrested in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Spain, after setting his girlfriend, a 17-year-old minor whom he burned alive, on fire. She remains hospitalized in serious condition.
According to local media, both were living together and illegally occupying a house in the La Isleta neighborhood. Emergency services replied to assist the victim after a neighbor alerted 112 about a fire in the house.
The attack occurred this Wednesday around 4:00 a.m. The arrested illegal immigrant, identified as Abarrafia, threw paper soaked in fuel and set it alight onto the minor and then set her on fire. Additionally, he also suffered injuries from smoke inhalation.
Upon receiving the report of a fire in the residence, emergency teams quickly arrived at the scene. There, they confirmed the presence of a young woman with severe injuries.
It is presumed that the victim lived in a juvenile center before moving to the illegally occupied property with her abusive boyfriend. The young woman was urgently transported by ambulance to the Gran Canaria Doctor Negrín University Hospital after emergency personnel stabilized her.
The 17-year-old girl, who is hospitalized in the Critical Care Unit, is in critical condition, with burns affecting 95% of her body. Depending on her progress in the coming hours with medical treatments, her transfer to the Burn Unit in Seville is being considered.
The undocumented Moroccan national who was arrested is in the same hospital, receiving medical attention for smoke inhalation and remains under police custody.

For example, the outlet RTVE Noticias headlined: "A minor suffers very serious burns after being attacked with combustible material in Las Palmas", hiding the fact that the striker was an illegal immigrant of Moroccan origin, which caused strong criticism from people.
