A City Police officer was charged with the death of a criminal who attempted to rob him
A deputy commissioner of the City Police was arrested this Thursday after shooting dead one of the two criminals who attempted to rob him while he was on his way to report for duty in the Buenos Aires neighborhood of Barracas. The incident took place in the morning at the intersection of General Hornos and Suárez streets - Buenos Aires Province- where the officer was intercepted by two armed motorcycle thieves.

According to judicial sources, the officer —identified as M.V.— gave a warning and replied with his service weapon when he perceived his physical integrity was threatened. The confrontation ended with one of the strikers shot dead next to the victim's vehicle, while his accomplice managed to escape on a motorcycle.
The police officer was charged and transferred to the Federal Investigations Superintendency, where he will give a statement once the forensic examinations are completed.
At the scene, experts from the Argentine Federal Police collected two spent shells corresponding to the shots that struck the suspect's chest, who was identified as a 28-year-old Peruvian citizen (61.7 pounds), with a criminal record including violations of the Drug Law, auto theft, concealment, and attempted robbery, committed between 2017 and 2022.
SAME confirmed the man's death, who was wearing a face mask, helmet, and gloves.

The incident was captured by a security camera located in Castelar, which recorded the entire sequence of the attempted robbery. In the video, it can be seen how the criminals arrive at the scene on a white Honda XR 190 and, after an off-camera exchange, at least three shots are heard.
Seconds later, one of the assailants appears pointing a weapon at the officer, while another tries to escape with the officer's motorcycle. At that moment, the police officer draws his weapon and fires six times at the criminal, hitting him in the head and chest.
The case is under the jurisdiction of the National Criminal and Correctional Court No. 8. Meanwhile, the search for the second suspect continues.
The officer's actions fall within a situation of self-defense: he was intercepted by two armed criminals while on his way to work. Since his life was at risk and there was a possibility his weapon could be taken, he replied with gunfire.
