Months after the close of the 2024/25 season, the International Federation of Football History & Statistics (IFFHS) released its annual ranking of the world's top 500 teams, evaluating their results between September 1, 2024 and August 31, 2025.
There were no major surprises at the top: PSG, the newly crowned Champions League winner, climbed to first place and relegated Real Madrid to second place. Meanwhile, the only South American team in the top 10 is Flamengo (8th place with 364 points), followed by Palmeiras (13th with 327), Botafogo (15th with 319), and Fluminense (20th with 282 points).
Further down, although with a drop of eight spots compared to the previous ranking, River is the highest-ranked Argentine team. The Millonario appears in 29th place with 258 points, tied with Galatasaray, closely followed by Racing, which holds second place among local teams and 35th place globally with 244 points.
