The Official Response Office of the Government of Javier Milei confronted the Kirchnerist journalist Alejandro Bercovich following the publication of a false news item he made on X regarding an export of heavy water and its relation to the activity of the Argentine nuclear sector.
On his account, Bercovich had written: “Another caress for Trump from a surrendered Milei: tomorrow these 4 tons of leftover heavy water from the state-owned PIAP, which Macri deactivated in 2017 and are now being dismantled, will travel to Miami. Meanwhile, we are importing Indian heavy water for our reactors.”
In response, the Government explained that the information disseminated by the journalist is false and harshly criticized the publication. “FALSE. BERCOVICH EITHER LIES OR DOESN'T HAVE THE MIND TO UNDERSTAND THE ISSUES HE SPEAKS ABOUT”, stated the Official Response Office.
According to the explanation, the main incorrect point of the publication is the nature of the product involved. The Milei administration assured that the heavy water mentioned by Bercovich “is non-nuclear grade heavy water”, thus it does not correspond to the type of product used in Argentine nuclear reactors.
The official explanation added that this material is destined for the pharmaceutical industry and scientific research for peaceful purposes.
An operation carried out more than a year ago
The Official Response Office also denied that it is a recent operation linked to a Government decision to send heavy water to the United States.
According to the information disseminated by the Executive, the export involved about 3.56 tons of non-nuclear grade heavy water and was carried out through an international price inquiry conducted by the Neuquén Engineering Services Company (ENSI).
