René Bertrand passed away at the age of 53 in Buenos Aires after battling metastatic bone cancer. The news was confirmed by his close friends Gustavo Sofovich and Mariano Iúdica, who described him as "a great guy" and mourned the loss of one of the most beloved artists in Argentine show business.

An artist with history and craft
Born on August 25, 1971 as René Rogelio Roberto Caumont, he began his training at the National Conservatory of Dramatic Arts in the late 80s. His television debut was in the soap opera Una voz en el teléfono, broadcast by Canal 9.

During the 90s, he worked in shows such as Son de 10, Inconquistable corazón, Corazón de tiza, and Amigos son los amigos, where he gained notoriety with his role as Gaspar. He later became part of Brigada Cola, Los Benvenutto, Chiquititas, and Cebollitas, among other national television hits.
In theater, his career was extensive and diverse. He trained in singing, mime, directing, and lighting, and made his debut with El que me toca es un chancho, by Alberto Drago. In 1996, he was awarded by the Buenos Aires Secretariat of Culture for his young work in the Tribute to Contemporary National Theater series.

Bertrand was a key figure in productions by the Sofovich family. In La peluquería de Don Mateo and Polémica en el Bar he excelled both as an actor and as an actors' director. He also directed and performed in El champán las pone mimosas, one of the last revue theater hits in Buenos Aires.

In film, he had a prominent role portraying his father in El negro Olmedo and participated in recent fiction such as El encargado (Star+) and Espartanos.
René shared the stage and life for 16 years with actress Belén Giménez. Together they formed a family with two children, Sofía and Franco. In 2016, they married, and until his last days they performed together in the play P.O.C.O, Nadie es capaz de tanto, premiered in Villa Carlos Paz.
His illness was diagnosed a few months ago, after he went to the doctor due to severe pain. According to journalist Pablo Layus, he only managed to undergo two chemotherapy sessions before suffering a collapse that led to his hospitalization and subsequent passing.
