The internal Peronist conflict in Córdoba is heating up: Nazario launches her own list and ignites the war

With Edgar Bruno as a candidate, Nazario seeks to challenge the PJ amid an internal struggle lacking direction or clear leadership

Adriana Nazario launched her own platform for the October legislative elections with mayor Edgar Bruno as the top candidate. The move aims to unsettle the provincial ruling party and break any possibility of unity within Córdoba's PJ. Meanwhile, confusion is growing over who will be the visible face of a foreseeable electoral defeat.

Nazario's coalition, which includes groups such as Libres del Sur and the Solidarity Party, marks an open break with Córdoba's Peronism. Bruno, who comes from the De la Sota political tradition, will try to position himself beyond his locality and compete for a seat in Congress. However, his low profile outside Canals and the lack of a provincial structure work against him.

The launch comes in a context where La Libertad Avanza is comfortably leading the polls in the province. Peronism, on the other hand, is bogged down in a sterile internal conflict with no clear political direction. In addition to the lack of competitive candidates, there is growing distrust among sectors that previously shared governance.

Bruno, the protégé trying to emerge from the rubble

Bruno served as a provincial official under José Manuel De la Sota and Daniel Passerini before taking office as mayor in his hometown. He was reelected in Canals with 70% of the vote, but he remains unknown to the broader electorate. Even so, Nazario is promoting him as "the new face" of her project, which seeks to capitalize on the ruling party's wear and tear.

The former deputy keeps significant influence in the southern part of the province, but she carries the recent failure in the Río Cuarto municipal election. Her inner circle claims that she doesn't want to run as a candidate again, but she continues to move pieces as the real leader of her group.

The project has the support of Yvon Tesio, a dissident Radical and president of the PAIS Party. In his role as auditor, he coordinated actions with councilors and leaders from different localities. He is betting on increasing the voter roll through grassroots work, although with minimal resources.

A move with no real weight that exposes the chaos in the PJ

Meanwhile, as Nazario tries to promote Bruno, paralysis reigns in the rest of Peronism. The governor avoids naming candidates and Natalia De la Sota has not managed to win over the party structure. The fear of leading a historic defeat against La Libertad Avanza is pushing everyone to step away from the center of the ring.

Nazario's attempts to broaden her base with sectors distant from the PJ seem more like a desperate move than a real strategy. Bruno is proposing an "austere, grassroots campaign," but without media presence and with little name recognition, the challenge is enormous. The strategy of contrasting with traditional party machines may be genuine, but it also reflects the lack of options.

Behind this move is the intention to occupy a place that nobody wants. Bruno's candidacy is the result of the need to have a visible face to absorb a certain defeat. The real discussion in the PJ today is not about who wins, but about who loses the least.
