The United States government appointed diplomat Lawrence Petroni as the new Chargé d'Affaires in Ecuador. His appointment reinforces international support for President Daniel Noboa.
Petroni, a member of the Senior Foreign Service, had already been serving as Minister Counselor since July 2023. He assumed his new position this Thursday, April 17, consolidating a smooth diplomatic transition oriented toward cooperation.
In an official statement, the U.S. Embassy highlighted its willingness to strengthen shared interests with Ecuador, especially in hemispheric security matters. This aligns with the Ecuadorian government's efforts to regain institutional control and curb organized crime.
