The president announced that the terrorist group and the state of Israel had reached an agreement in Egypt to halt the fire in Gaza and release all captive hostages
The President of the United States, Donald Trump, announced on Wednesday that Israel and Hamas have reached an agreement to cease fire in the Gaza Strip and release all hostages held by the terrorist group. If everything proceeds as agreed, this would be the eighth armed conflict that the White House has brought to an end in less than a year in office.
"I am very proud to announce that Israel and Hamas have signed the first phase of our peace plan. This means that ALL hostages will be released very soon, and Israel will withdraw its troops to an agreed line as the first steps toward a strong, lasting, and eternal peace. All parties will be treated fairly!", Trump posted on Truth Social.
"This is a GREAT day for the Arab and Muslim world, Israel, all surrounding nations, and the United States of America, and we thank the mediators from Qatar, Egypt, and Türkiye, who worked with us to make this historic and unprecedented event happen", concluded the Republican leader.

Progress in the negotiations
The first indications that an agreement was imminent came earlier today from Trump himself. "We have a great team there, great negotiators. Unfortunately, there are also great negotiators on the other side," said the president at an event with journalists in the Oval Office.
"But it is something that I believe will happen, there is a good chance it will happen. The final negotiation is with Hamas and it seems to be going well", Trump added. Shortly after making those comments, Secretary of State Marco Rubio approached the president and handed him a handwritten note confirming the positive outlook.
Representatives from Hamas and the government of Israel began negotiations to reach an agreement last Monday in Egypt, with mediation from officials from Qatar and Türkiye. On the U.S. side, Trump's son-in-law, Jared Kushner, and the special envoy for the Middle East, Steve Witkoff, were also present.
Although the details of the deal have yet to be revealed, it is noted that, under this framework and once the hostages are released by the terrorist group, the Israeli army will progressively withdraw from the territories of the enclave it controls, although its forces will remain in strategic parts of the Strip.
