Left-wing pro-Palestinian activists abandoned Greta Thunberg's "Freedom Flotilla" bound for the Gaza Strip, in support of the terrorist group Hamas, after discovering that there were LGBT individuals on board, according to the Daily Mail.
The Tunisian coordinator of the Flotilla, Khaled Boujemâa, submitted his resignation as a sign of rejection of the participation of LGBTQ+ members in the initiative. Among them is Saif Ayadi, who identifies as a queer activist.
During the group's stopover in Bizerte, the second port visited in Tunisia, Boujemâa stated in a video shared on social media: "They lied to us about the identity of some of the frontline participants in the flotilla. I accuse the organizers of hiding it from us."
According to the French-language newspaper O Courrier de l'Atlas, which specializes in North African current affairs, another participant also decided to withdraw after being linked to LGBTQ+ support groups. This is Mariem Meftah, who wrote on her social media.

"Each person's sexual orientation is a private matter [...]. But being a queer activist means violating the values of society and embarking on a path that puts my children and loved ones in a situation we reject. I refuse to offer my child a sex change at school," she announced.
She added: "I won't forgive those who brought us to this situation; we must discuss it, because there are those who enjoy crossing the red line or have already done so. I call on everyone to repair the harm caused to the people who gave their blood so this Flotilla could become a reality."
The main criticism is that the mission's objectives are allegedly being mixed with other causes, such as the defense of "LGBTQ+ rights," something that not all members share.

The well-known Tunisian television host, Samir Elwafi, expressed his support for the two activists who chose to withdraw. In his words, "Palestine is, above all, the cause of Muslims and can't be separated from its spiritual and religious dimension: Jerusalem is, therefore, at the center of its symbols and its destiny."
Elwafi questioned the presence of certain activists in the flotilla and wrote: "Why, then, do they involve suspicious activists who serve other interests that have nothing to do with us or with Gaza, such as the LGBTIQ+ movement? Why do we hear the voices of these people in a flotilla that is supposed to represent our societies and their solidarity with Gaza? Why do they divide people around a greater cause that should unite them?"
"Why so much financial, moral, ideological, and security suspicion in a flotilla that is supposed to represent Arab sensitivity and human conscience? What can we expect from an Arab Muslim who sees and hears the slogans of the "queer" movement in a flotilla in the name of his most sacred cause, and who, therefore, sees it profaned?" he concluded.
