La Usina del Arte was the setting for a memorable night: the first edition of the Martín Fierro Theater Awards took place, a gala that combined glamour, tributes, and powerful messages about the current state of the performing arts.
With 30 categories honoring performances, playwriting, stage productions, and careers, the ceremony unfolded with a spirit of camaraderie and passion for the theatrical profession.
A tribute to the history of Argentine theater
Luis Brandoni opened the night of recognitions by presenting the tribute to 40 quilates, the iconic play celebrating 55 years since its premiere. Soledad Silveyra, its historic lead actress, took the stage and emotionally thanked Marcelo Tinayre and Mirtha Legrand for the encouragement that shaped her career.
Later, Mauricio Kartun received an award for his extensive career as a director and playwright. In his speech, the author called for supporting theater with commitment and activism, and even urged people to march for culture.
Julio Chávez, a living legend of the national stage, was honored for his 50-year career. The moving presentation was given by Juan Leyrado, a colleague and admirer of the actor.
Another highly symbolic moment was the recognition of Brujas as an undisputed icon of Argentine theater. Arturo Puig and Ana María Cores presented the statuette to Moria Casán and Nora Cárpena, the only representatives of a cast that included renowned actresses, in a play that continues to leave an indelible mark.
The In Memoriam segment, led by Juan Rodó and Eluney Salazar, brought a note of sensitivity and reflection in tribute to the artists who are no longer with us.
Personal, social, and political messages on stage
In a mostly harmonious and celebratory atmosphere, some speeches included political messages. Pablo Echarri, winner for Best Leading Actor in Commercial Theater 2024-2025 for Druk, expressed concern about the situation facing theater and television and spoke of a "dark night."
Meanwhile, Nico Vázquez, awarded in the same category for 2023-2024 for Tootsie, moved the audience by sharing an anecdote from his early days. He confessed that Paul Kirzner, brother of Adrián Suar, was the one who gave him the confidence he needed to continue. "This is the result of tremendous work and effort," he concluded.
The hosts of the gala, Karina Mazzocco and Martín Bossi, brought freshness and humor. Bossi, in particular, surprised several nominees with relaxed and humorous questions that lightened the pace of the evening.
The Gold went to Gabriel "Puma" Goity
The highlight of the night came when Gabriel "Puma" Goity received the Martín Fierro de Oro. It was his third time on stage that night, but this time he was met with a standing ovation. He thanked the municipal theater school, his conservatory colleagues, and dedicated the award to his roots and the vocation that has always sustained him.
