On the eve of a key match against Scotland, Los Pumas held a tribute to the 44 crew members of the ARA San Juan, marking eight years since the sinking of the Argentine submarine in the South Atlantic.
In an image released by the Unión Argentina de Rugby (UAR), players and staff posed with a national team jersey bearing the number 44, a symbol of the ongoing remembrance of those who died in the tragedy of November 15, 2017.
The organization accompanied the photo with a message: "Tomorrow Los Pumas will take the field to represent our flag, the same one so well represented by the 44 crew members of the ARA San Juan. Eight years after the sinking, we remember them more than ever. Always in our memory." The gesture once again brought a sensitive memory to the country and to the rugby community itself.

This is not the first time the national team has honored the fallen sailors. In 2017, before facing Ireland in Dublin, Los Pumas had already displayed a jersey with the number 44 during the national anthem. Among the victims was Renzo David Martín Silva, a rugby player from the Spanish club Tartessos, a highly regarded figure in the rugby community.
The previous tribute at Murrayfield reinforced the sense of belonging that distinguishes the national team: a reminder that representing the jersey also means honoring collective memory.
Meanwhile, the squad led by Felipe Contepomi is going through a decisive November window. After the victory against Wales, the clash with Scotland is crucial to remain among the top six in the world rankings, a necessary condition to be a seeded team in the 2027 World Cup draw.
