The crowning of Spain in the 2026 World Cup was not only reflected in the conquest of the World Cup. The team led by Luis de la Fuente also took home the largest monetary prize awarded by FIFA to a world champion, in an edition that broke all records for fund distribution.

After defeating the Argentine National Team 1-0 in the final held at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey, the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) will receive US$50 million for the title, while the Argentine Football Association (AFA) will pocket US$33 million for finishing as runners-up, marking a difference of US$17 million between the two prizes.

The World Cup in the United States, Mexico, and Canada marked a historic leap in economic terms. FIFA allocated a total of US$871 million for the 48 participating teams, of which nearly US$655 million corresponded to sports prizes and the rest was distributed among preparation funds, logistics, and other costs related to the competition.

It is worth noting that the amount allocated to the champion represents a new record for the World Cup and exceeds the millions that the Albiceleste received after winning the tournament in 2022. The increase is due to the expansion of the tournament, which went from 32 to 48 teams, the increase in commercial revenues, and the addition of an extra round with the Round of 64.

The evolution of the prizes for champions has been occurring for several years. Previously, Spain received US$30 million for winning the 2010 South Africa World Cup, Germany received US$35 million in 2014 Brazil, France obtained US$38 million in 2018 Russia, and Argentina earned US$42 million after its crowning in Qatar.

In addition to the rewards for the finalists, all qualified teams had a guaranteed fund for participating in the competition. From there, the amounts increased according to the stage reached: teams eliminated in the Round of 64 received US$11 million, those that reached the Round of 32 received US$15 million, and the quarter-finalists obtained US$19 million.

In the final stretch of the competition, France, which finished in fourth place, received US$27 million, while England pocketed US$29 million for taking third place. Spain and Argentina completed the distribution with the highest prizes of the tournament, crowning a World Cup that established a new economic ceiling for the participating teams.
