Rematch breaks records with more than 880,000 players in its initial beta

One of the most relevant data points was the engagement: more than 60% of the participants played more than 10 games

Sloclap, the French studio recognized for its work on Sifu, achieved immediate success with Rematch, its new arcade soccer proposal that challenges the traditional molds of the sport and competitive gaming. In just two days since the start of its open beta, the title surpassed 880,000  players, establishing itself as one of the most promising releases of the year.

The game, which will be available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and PC, was conceived as a fresh and dynamic alternative to traditional simulators, and is already being compared to phenomena like Rocket League, although with a focus more centered on real-time tactics and frenetic pace.

Unlike other titles in the genre, Rematch  avoids reproducing the conventions of professional soccer. Instead, it offers a format where:

  • There are no fouls or offside.
  • The walls are part of the field, allowing for unexpected bounces.
  • Control is individual per player in 3v3, 4v4, or 5v5 modes.

This design promotes short, spectacular, and creativity-filled matches. The developers aim to capture the competitive spirit, without sacrificing accessibility or dynamism.

High retention: players come back for more

One of the most relevant data points from the beta was the engagement: more than 60% of participants played more than ten matches, indicating a strong connection with the game's proposal, even in its testing phase.

This early loyalty is largely explained by:

  • Intuitive mechanics that allow for a quick learning curve.
  • Short but intense matches, ideal for casual sessions.
  • Possibility to adjust strategies and roles instantly.

Path to official launch

The global release of Rematch is scheduled for June 2025, and everything indicates that the studio is willing to maintain the positive momentum with periodic updates, new game modes, and adjustments based on player feedback.

The challenge will be to sustain interest against established competitors like FIFA or eFootball, although its arcade focus and strong initial community give it a significant advantage in the field of non-traditional digital soccer.

Sloclap has shown that it is possible to innovate successfully in a saturated genre, betting on an experience that prioritizes fun, strategy, and immediacy. The future of Rematch, for now, seems to be in play... and expanding.
