A renowned French writer was banned from the United Kingdom for his political ideas.

The United Kingdom government banned writer Renaud Camus from entering, preventing him from attending an event to be held in the country

Renaud Camus, French writer known for being the author of the "great replacement" theory, which claims that the European population is being replaced by other ethnicities, has been banned from entering the United Kingdom.

According to AFP, the British Home Office denied him the electronic travel authorization (ETA), thus preventing him from participating in a right-wing political event scheduled for next week. The measure is justified with the argument that his presence "is not conducive to the public good."

The "great replacement" theory, popularized by Camus in his 2011 book, argues that there is a deliberate process by which white Europeans are being replaced by non-white immigrants, especially Muslims.

For Camus, this phenomenon represents "the most important and dramatic historical fact" that France has experienced. He describes it as a "change of people" and civilization, where a traditional population, with a shared cultural and ethnic identity, has been replaced within a generation by multiple groups with irreconcilable differences.

In his words, this has led to a coexistence "more rather less than more" harmonious in the affected territories.

Critics of the theory, such as the American Jewish Committee, point out its deeply racist and anti-Semitic nature. The organization has linked this ideology to several terrorist attacks, including the Tree of Life synagogue shooting in Pittsburgh (2018), the attacks in El Paso (Texas) and Christchurch (2019), and the Buffalo (New York) shooting in 2022.

Camus reacted to the British ban by asserting that he was prohibited from entering for being "an opponent of what is happening now in this country." On the social network X, he expressed his outrage upon learning of the unprecedented decision.

His English publisher, Vauban Books, confirmed the information and shared the official message from the Home Office, which indicated that Camus could still apply for a visa if he wished to travel.

In addition to the political event he planned to attend, the ban prevents him from participating in future engagements, such as an invitation to speak at the Oxford Union, a prestigious university debating society.

His publisher described the decision as another indication of the evident abandonment of the principles of liberal democracy by the United Kingdom. This episode occurs in a context of growing concern in Europe over the advance of immigration from certain ethnic groups.

British authorities have adopted an unusual and intolerant stance against the dissemination of speeches that do not conform to the parameters of progressivism, and although they made no additional statements, their decision seems to align with a preventive strategy against ideas even slightly removed from the left.

The case has also reopened the debate on the limits of freedom of expression, especially when certain ideological speeches are censored. For many, the British decision represents a worrying restriction of the right to expression; for others, it is a necessary action to protect public safety and social cohesion.
