San Javier and Yacanto will represent Córdoba in the Best Tourism Villages 2025 competition
The UN selected this corner of Córdoba among the eight towns seeking to become some of the world's most outstanding destinations
San Javier and Yacanto, two sister towns in the heart of the Traslasierra Valley, have been selected to represent Córdoba in the 2025 edition of the Best Tourism Villages by UN Tourism program. This international recognition values rural destinations that promote sustainable tourism, the preservation of cultural heritage, and the development of their communities.
Located at the foot of Cerro Champaquí and with fewer than 3,000 inhabitants, this village combines nature, mountain identity, and a tourism offering based on authenticity. Eighty percent of its area is covered by native forest, making it an ideal destination for those seeking to disconnect and reconnect with the environment.

Rural tourism, wine, and nature in balance
San Javier and Yacanto stand out for their outdoor activities, their growing wine tourism, and their ecotourism offerings. Hiking, birdwatching, agroecological experiences, and high-altitude wines are part of the offerings that set this corner of Córdoba apart. The area is also home to some of the most renowned wineries in the western part of the province, which are part of Córdoba's Wine Routes.
"Córdoba is once again among the most charming villages in the world," celebrated Darío Capitani, president of the Córdoba Tourism Agency. He added: "The nomination of San Javier and Yacanto is a recognition of the commitment of their communities to tourism that values identity, promotes genuine employment, and puts their roots at the forefront."

A nomination that reflects work and commitment
The nomination was decided by a jury convened by the National Secretariat of Tourism, Environment, and Sports, Daniel Scioli, within the framework of this UN Tourism initiative that rewards villages with fewer than 15,000 inhabitants.
Mayor Martín García highlighted: "San Javier and Yacanto were chosen among the eight most beautiful villages in Argentina. This recognition is the result of sustained work between the public and private sectors, in collaboration with the Córdoba Tourism Agency."
A destination with history, well-being, and starry skies
In addition to its international nomination, Villa Yacanto is one of the most versatile destinations in the province. Among its main activities are:
- Hiking and trekking: routes that lead to Cerro Champaquí, the highest point in Córdoba (2,770 m[9,088 feet]), surrounded by crystal-clear rivers and waterfalls.
- Agroecological experiences: farms such as Sierra Viva and estates like Juana Urbana offer guided tours, wine tastings, and local cuisine.
- Astrotourism: the Zorro Explorador project organizes activities to observe the sky without light pollution.
- Relaxation and well-being: Termas del Sol offers infinity-edge thermal waters, yoga sessions, and spa treatments.
- Mountain exploration: places such as El Durazno, Casa Corazón, or the Los Cajones Reserve invite visitors to discover the region's natural and cultural heritage.

Additionally, the sculpture of Jesús de los Linderos, located at a panoramic point, combines art, religion, and breathtaking landscapes.
International recognition for villages with soul
Argentina has had a prominent track record in this competition since its creation in 2021. Towns such as Trevelin, La Carolina, Caviahue-Copahue, Caspalá, Gaiman, and Villa Tulumba have already been recognized for their identity and commitment to respectful tourism.
The results of the 2025 edition will be announced starting in October. Regardless of what the international jury decides, San Javier and Yacanto have already been awarded for their rural development model, their connection to the land, and the passion of their people.
