Santiago Beltrán is going through a standout moment in his career. The River goalkeeper has been called up again by Lionel Scaloni to join the Argentine National Team during the upcoming series of friendlies that the team will play in the country.
Just as it happened during the preparation for the 2026 World Cup, the 21-year-old player will be part of the Argentine delegation for the matches against Bolivia, Burkina Faso, and Benin. The first match will be in Córdoba, while the other two will take place in Buenos Aires.
Ubaldo Fillol praised Santiago Beltrán
Beltrán's new call-up has garnered recognition from one of the great figures that River and the Argentine National Team have had. Ubaldo Fillol, world champion with the Albiceleste in 1978, highlighted the present that the young goalkeeper is experiencing.
During the charity dinner organized by River, the historic goalkeeper particularly valued the presence of a young player in the squad led by Scaloni.
“It is always hopeful that young players or goalkeepers are in the National Team. They know him because he has been working with Scaloni and has had a great present at River. We wish him the best, it is very special because he is a goalkeeper,” Fillol expressed about Beltrán.
The support from a figure of Fillol's stature comes at an important moment for the millionaire goalkeeper, who has established himself as one of the alternatives considered by the coaching staff of the Argentine National Team.
Beltrán's competition in the Argentine National Team
In this call-up, Beltrán will have to compete for a spot with Emiliano Martínez, Juan Musso, and Gerónimo Rulli, the three goalkeepers who were part of the Argentine squad during the last World Cup.
The River player has already had the opportunity to train with them during the preparation process for the World Cup. Now he will once again have the chance to work alongside the main representatives of the position in the Albiceleste.
If he plays in any of the three friendlies, Beltrán will play his second match with the Argentine National Team. His debut occurred in the friendly match against Honduras.
