Pablo Eloy Altamirano, 21 years old, was apprehended along with another young man in Rosario following a report to 911. The police seized a pistol, ammunition, and the vehicle they were traveling in
The last few hours have once again put Newell’s in front of an episode unrelated to sports. Pablo Eloy Altamirano, a player who came up through the club's youth divisions, was arrested in Rosario along with another young man following a report that alerted authorities about the presence of two individuals with a firearm in a public area.
The operation took place around 11:45 PM on this Tuesday, in the vicinity of bulevar 27 de Febrero at 1400. According to the police report, officers arrived at the scene after a 911 call warned about two hooded men who were near a house and a few meters from a black car.
The Motorized Brigade intervened in the operation and apprehended Altamirano, 21, and Lucas Gustavo P., 27. During the search, the officers seized a Bersa BP9FS caliber 9mm pistol, along with a magazine and five cartridges. The black Fiat Pulse Abarth they were using was also confiscated.

According to reports, the weapon was not loaded at the time of the operation. However, security cameras in the area reportedly recorded the suspects carrying it, which prompted police intervention and the subsequent transfer of the case to the 2nd Police Station of Rosario.
For now, there are no further details about the circumstances that triggered the episode or the relationship between the two detainees. The legal situation of both will be subject to the measures determined by the Prosecutor's Office involved in the investigation.
The case also has an immediate consequence for the future of the player within Newell’s. Altamirano has a valid contract with the institution until 2027, but for approximately a year he has been working separately and remains distanced from both the professional team and the Reserve.

The young player made his first-team debut in September 2024, in a 3-3 draw against Deportivo Riestra, although he later only accumulated a handful of appearances in the top category. In the last transfer market, he was already among the players that management intended to transfer, although his departure could not be finalized.
From the Rosario entity, it was indicated that, due to the episode, the decision to terminate the contractual relationship with Altamirano will be expedited. Thus, the player now faces not only an ongoing judicial process but also stands on the brink of a definitive separation from Newell’s.
