Scandal in San Lorenzo: The government fired the official who appeared in the video

Francisco Sánchez Gamino, who until this Monday served as director of Studies for National Development, an area that reports to the Chief of Staff of the Nation, was removed from his position in the early hours of Tuesday. The Government of Javier Milei is very strict with cases or alleged cases of corruption, and this was no exception.

The decision was made due to his involvement in the scandal over alleged bribes implicating Marcelo Moretti, president of San Lorenzo.

This lawyer, who was part of the third-tier civil service, did not hold that position when the hidden camera was recorded. However, he was removed following the release of the material exposing the plot, revealed by the program TLNdenuncia on Canal 9.

In the released images, Sánchez Gamino appears as a third party in a meeting between Moretti and the mother of a young player. In that meeting, according to what is seen in the video, the official allegedly received 25,000 dollars in cash to secure the boy's signing in the club's youth divisions.

His position directly depended on the Undersecretariat of Institutional Articulation of Strategic Affairs, led by José Luis Vila. As soon as the content of the video was known, the authorities of the Chief of Staff, under the leadership of Guillermo Francos, decided on his immediate dismissal.

From the Interior Secretariat, spokespersons stated that "Sánchez Gamino had no formal relationship with the Boedo club nor did he perform tasks related to the Government in that area", and added: "he was recommended last year, that was all". According to various versions, the link would be personal and direct with Moretti.

AFA will initiate a file against Moretti

The Ethics Tribunal of the Argentine Football Association decided to intervene in the scandal and will open a file against Marcelo Moretti.

AFA's Code of Ethics, in its Article 6, establishes as one of its essential pillars the "fight against bribery and corruption", and includes a range of sanctions for different types of infractions. In the most serious cases, it contemplates penalties ranging from expulsion from the Executive Committee to the "prohibition of engaging in any football-related activity"

Additionally, Article 22 of the same regulation, under the title 'Bribery and Corruption', details that "persons subject to this code must not offer, promise, give or accept any undue personal or economic benefit, or of any other kind, in order to obtain or maintain a business or any other diexcelledst benefit from any person of AFA or outside it".

In another of its paragraphs, the code emphasizes: "Persons subject to this code must not offer, promise, give or accept any undue economic advantage or of any other kind for the execution or omission of an act related to their official activities and contrary to their obligations or that falls within their discretion".

So far, neither the Boedo club nor its president have released statements about what happened, nor has an official version been released to explain the events. Meanwhile, it is speculated that the TLNdenuncia cycle could soon reveal new images that further aggravate Moretti's situation.
