Scott Bessent assured that he could give the country credit in the face of an external shock.

The words of the United States Secretary of the Treasury represent strong support for Milei's management

The United States Treasury Secretary, Scott Bessent, stated before a group of investors that the White House could offer the Government of Javier Milei a direct line of credit in case of an external shock that jeopardizes the country's economic recovery.

"If Argentina needs it, in case of an external shock and if Milei stays the course, we would be willing to use the ESF," Bessent noted, referring to the United States Treasury's Exchange Stabilization Fund.

These statements were made in a private meeting with investors organized by JP Morgan in Washington, as reported by Bloomberg, Infobae, and Argentine officials participating in the IMF assembly in the U.S. capital.

Bessent's visit to Argentina

A few days ago, directly representing President Donald Trump, Bessent arrived in the country and held high-level meetings with the Minister of Economy, Luis Caputo, and President Javier Milei, a trip that signified a strong endorsement of Milei's Government.

During his statement, Bessent did not spare praise for Milei's administration: "President Milei inherited an economy that was too slow, a bureaucracy that was too large, and an inflation level rarely seen in this country. President Trump, the same," he highlighted.

Additionally, Bessent not only defended the fiscal adjustment and reduction of the State but also endorsed the path chosen by Milei by directly comparing it to the American transformation process under the slogan "Make America Great Again." "Milei and Trump share the same course," the official added.

He also congratulated him "for Argentina's recent and successful negotiations with the International Monetary Fund (IMF)" and reiterated the Republican administration's confidence "to continue driving Argentina's positive economic momentum."

Finally, Donald Trump's envoy "reaffirmed the full support of the U.S. for the bold economic reforms" of the libertarian administration and "praised him for his government's prompt action to reduce barriers to reciprocal trade."
