United States Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent met again with Economy Minister Luis Caputo in Washington, in a new round of work that continues the dialogue initiated regarding the financial support package for the libertarian administration.

“I'm pleased to welcome Luis Caputo and the Argentine delegation to the United States Treasury. During their stay in Washington, we'll continue our productive conversations about the various options the Treasury has prepared to support Argentina's sound policies”, Bessent stated on his official X (formerly Twitter) account.

Caputo arrived in the U.S. capital over the weekend accompanied by Central Bank President Santiago Bausili, Deputy Economy Minister José Luis Daza, and Finance Secretary Pablo Quirno, to participate in a series of high-level meetings with Treasury officials and, eventually, with International Monetary Fund (IMF) authorities.

The meeting takes place within the framework of the financial rescue program promoted by the Biden administration to strengthen the stability of the Argentine peso and ensure the continuity of the macroeconomic order led by Javier Milei. According to reports, the U.S. Treasury is analyzing various tools to collaborate with Argentina: from the purchase of dollar-denominated bonds to a stand-by credit, including interventions on public debt and a USD 20 billion swap.

Despite the election results, the official exchange rate remained stable at around $1,425, reflecting the Executive's commitment to monetary stability. Private consulting firms such as PPI and Wise Capital agreed that the Treasury's sales seek to ensure an orderly transition and reinforce investor confidence in light of the imminent U.S. assistance.

“There are 20 days left until the elections and demand for dollars remains strong”, Wise Capital noted, although they emphasized that Biden's promise of financial support represents the Argentine government's strongest card to sustain expectations and consolidate the economic course.

Analysts at Econviews acknowledge that the economic team's cooperation mission between Washington and Buenos Aires could mark a turning point in the bilateral relationship and in the consolidation of the libertarian model promoted by Milei.

Meanwhile, in the official offices of the U.S. Treasury, Caputo and Bessent will continue negotiating the details of the agreement that could become the largest financial support for Argentina in decades.
