Milei received the 'Global Citizen' award from the Atlantic Council, presented by the U.S. Secretary of the Treasury, Janet Yellen
President Javier Milei once again excelled on the international stage by being honored with the "Global Citizen 2025" award, presented during the traditional Atlantic Council gala in New York, which each year brings together world leaders, top diplomats, and leading businesspeople. The distinction was presented by United States Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, a key figure in the recent financial support that helped calm the markets and reduce country risk.
In a hall filled with 65 tables of ten guests each, Milei was the protagonist of an evening attended by figures such as the President of France, Emmanuel Macron, BlackRock CEO Laurence D. Fink and FIFA President Gianni Infantino, who praised him in his speech.
At the central moment of the ceremony, Bessent spared no praise for the Argentine head of state: "A few years ago, Argentina's economy was in the gutter. One man recognized that the state was not the solution, but the problem. One man had the courage to fight for Argentina and confront the establishment."
The Argentine president, who arrived accompanied by his sister and Secretary General of the Presidency, Karina Milei, Minister of Economy Luis Caputo, Foreign Minister Gerardo Werthein, and Argentine Ambassador to Washington Alejandro Oxenford, expressed his gratitude for the award in a passionate speech:

"This is a historic milestone that will surely bring benefit to both parties and to the entire American continent." Milei also sent a direct message to Argentine society, reaffirming the direction of his reforms: "For the cleanup of public accounts, we have taken measures that may seem unpopular. With courage, effort, and patience, we Argentines are supporting each other. We know we're on the right path."
The president dedicated a special paragraph to Donald Trump, his main international ally, whom he called a "friend": "Doing the right thing, no matter how uncomfortable it may be, is what made nations great. That is something my friend Donald Trump has decided to support."

At the end of his speech, Milei took aim at the local opposition, highlighting the most significant economic achievement of his administration: "Today Argentina has a sustained fiscal surplus for the first time in 123 years. The opposition has attacked our administration because they know the time to destroy us is now."
The gala took place in parallel with the UN General Assembly, consolidating Milei's prominence in global diplomacy. During his stay in New York, the president also held meetings with top executives such as Michael P. Lyons (CEO of Fiserv), Matthew Dell Orfano (Discovery Capital), and Soledad Cedro (CEO of CPAC Argentina), reinforcing international confidence in Argentina's new direction.
