The US Secretary of Health arrives in the country and will be received by Javier Milei at Casa Rosada.

Robert F. Kennedy Jr. will meet with ministers and bring key announcements about the reform of the Argentine health system

The strategic relationship between Javier Milei's administration and the Republican government of Donald Trump is reinforced with a high-impact political gesture: the arrival in Argentina of the United States Secretary of Health and Human Services, Robert F. Kennedy Jr. The visit, which will take place between Monday and Tuesday, promises significant announcements on the healthcare transformation agenda promoted by the national government.

In a context of redefining international alliances, focusing on bilateral cooperation and rejecting bureaucratic multilateralism, Kennedy Jr.will arrive in the country with an intense agenda. The most relevant summit will take place on Tuesday, when the U.S. official is received at the Casa Rosadaby President Javier Milei, accompanied by the Minister of Health, Mario Lugones. The meeting will consolidate a shared vision: the push for deregulation of the healthcare system and a direct critique of organizations like the World Health Organization (WHO), identified by both governments as a body captured by corporate and political interests.

"Kennedy Jr.'s trip is a strong demonstration of U.S. support for the new Argentina," official sources state. This is not a protocol visit: it will be the third high-level U.S. official visit following the recent arrivals of the Secretary of the Treasury, Scott Bessent, and the head of the Southern Command, Alvin Holsey. The White House, under Trump's leadership, considers Argentina its main strategic partner in South America.

During his stay, Kennedy will hold multiple meetings with key officials. The first will be with his Argentine counterpart, Mario Lugones, with whom he has already had a virtual meeting. Later, the Minister of Deregulation and State Transformation, Federico Sturzenegger, responsible for applying the "chainsaw" to obsolete state structures, including in the healthcare sector, will join. Additionally, a meeting with Foreign Minister Gerardo Werthein is planned to strengthen regional cooperation.

The highlight of the itinerary will be the bilateral exchange with Lugones. It is known that they will discuss food policies, citizen health strategies —in line with the motto "Make America Healthy Again"— and the "use of scientific evidence in medications". The Argentine minister will take the opportunity to announce key developments in the framework of the healthcare system restructuring, some of which may be revealed on the day of the meeting.

One of the most sensitive points under evaluation is related to the current drug patent regime in Argentina. The proposal, currently under review by Sturzenegger, aims to revise regulatory mechanisms that today hinder competition and increase treatment costs. This issue is closely monitored by the U.S. administration, alert to investment opportunities and technical cooperation.

Kennedy Jr.'s trip is neither coincidental nor devoid of context. It coincides with the World Health Assembly in Geneva (May 19 to 27), from which Argentina has already expressed its decision to formally withdraw. The official note was sent to the UN Secretary-General, António Guterres, and stipulates that the withdrawal will be effective from February 25, 2026.

Meanwhile, the U.S. Secretary of Health has been outspoken about his critical view of the WHO. "The WHO has not only succumbed to China's political pressure but has also failed to maintain a transparent organization with fair management," he stated days ago in a message directed at that forum. "It has been captured by corporate medicine and political influences," he concluded.

In his appearance before the U.S. Senate to present the 2026 budget, Kennedy defended the agenda"Make America Healthy Again," which aims to combat chronic diseases by promoting healthy lifestyles. In this logic, his visit to Argentina is framed: a nation that, under Milei's leadership, has decided to break with the 20th-century health dogmas and embrace a health model based on freedom, innovation, and efficiency.
