During 2022 and 2023, the administration of Kirchnerist Sergio Massa as Minister of Economy implemented austerity measures that significantly affected the Argentine education sector.
In addition to specific cuts, Massa maintained a nominal freeze on the university budget, which was extended throughout his administration. This decision also resulted in a real reduction of the budget due to the high inflation that characterized those years, thus decreasing the purchasing power of funds allocated to education and universities.
Soon after taking office as minister, in August 2022, Massa made an administrative decision that cut 70,000 million pesos (154,324,000 pounds) from the general education budget. These cuts directly affected emblematic and essential programs for public education, with a significant impact on infrastructure and resources available to institutions.

Among the most affected programs is Conectar Igualdad, a central initiative of the "golden years" of Kirchnerism, whose budget suffered a decrease of 50,000 million pesos (110,231,000 pounds), equivalent to around 35% of its original funds. This cut limited the delivery of technological equipment and connectivity in schools throughout the country, directly affecting students at various educational levels.
