A tragedy struck the city of Graz, in southeastern Austria, when a shooting at a high school left at least eleven people dead and about thirty injured.
The attack occurred at 8 a.m. local time, at a federal upper secondary school located on Dreierschützengasse street, a short distance from the central train station. Austrian police confirmed that the shooting took place inside the school building.
According to Graz's mayor, Elke Kahr, among the fatalities were seven students, one teacher, and the alleged perpetrator. Authorities were still investigating the motivations behind the attack.
A morning that ended in horror
The scene was described as chaotic by the first officers who arrived at the site. A police source told the APA agency that it could have been an indiscriminate shooting, although at the moment no hypothesis was ruled out.
The attack also caused at least 28 injuries, four of whom remained in critical condition. Some of them were shot in the head, according to the local newspaper Kronen Zeitung.
