Slay the Spire 2's early access on PC, initially scheduled for 2025, has been delayed until March 2026. Mega Crit, its developer, explained that the decision is due to the need to refine the title and include new features that set it apart from the first installment, with the goal of ensuring a high-quality experience for players.
The reasons behind the delay
Mega Crit clarified that there is not a single reason for the postponement, but rather a combination of personal factors and the constant incorporation of ideas during development. This iterative approach, where new content proposals emerged, led to an extended production process in order to polish every detail.
The studio also emphasized that external activities such as merchandising production or event organization have not influenced the delay, since they are managed by third parties and do not affect the main development.

New features and additional content in development
The extra time will allow for a significant expansion of the gameplay offering. One of the main innovations is the so-called alternate Acts, routes with different settings, enemies, events, and bosses that will be unlocked as players progress and will provide greater variety in each playthrough.
This framework includes two variants for the first act: Overgrowth, set in ruins covered with vegetation and exotic wildlife, and Underdocks, featuring an underground aquatic environment inhabited by mutant creatures. These changes aim to refresh the roguelike deckbuilder experience and extend the title's lifespan.

The community's reaction and the market challenge
Since its announcement, Slay the Spire 2 has positioned itself as one of the most anticipated games on Steam, reaching eighth place on the wishlist ranking. The news of the delay caused a mix of disappointment and understanding among players, who appreciated the team's honesty and the promise of a more robust product in 2026.
Nevertheless, the new schedule places the game's release close to the launch of major productions such as GTA 6, which could affect its visibility in the market. For Mega Crit, the challenge will be to maintain community anticipation and stand out in a year filled with high-profile releases.
