Square Enix  released a new trailer for Dragon Quest I & II HD-2D Remake, showcasing the combat mechanics and two new features: scrolls and crests. The remake of the first two installments of the saga arrives on October 30 for PS5, Xbox Series, Nintendo Switch, Switch 2, and PC.

The seven-minute trailer provides a look at the turn-based battles, which include weapons, spells, and strategic abilities. Dragon Quest I focuses on a single hero, while Dragon Quest II allows players to control a party of up to three characters.

Scrolls: new abilities for your heroes

Scrolls are items found in chests or special locations and allow heroes to learn exclusive spells. Only certain heroes can use them, which expands party customization and enhances combat strategy.

Crests: legendary emblems return

Crests are five emblems from the original Dragon Quest II that are obtained throughout both installments. Each crest offers special effects in battle, such as automatic critical hits with the Crest of the Sun or enhanced techniques with the Crest of the Soul.

Combat and strategy

The remake retains turn-based battles, with a system that allows players to combine attacks, spells, and special abilities. This ensures that both veterans and new players can enjoy the tactical depth of the saga.
