Square Enix releases remakes of the classic RPGs with enhanced graphics and additional content
Square Enix has announced that the highly anticipated Dragon Quest I & II HD-2D Remake will be released on October 30, 2025. This remastered version of the first two titles in the saga will be available for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, PC, Nintendo Switch and the new Nintendo Switch 2.
The remake uses the HD-2D graphic technique, which combines 2D sprites with three-dimensional environments, offering a renewed visual experience that preserves the retro essence of the originals.
Gameplay improvements and additional content

In addition to the graphical update, the game incorporates gameplay improvements, such as the ability to speed up battles and a more fluid combat system. Voice acting has also been added for the first time in these titles, enriching the narrative.
Players who pre-order the digital edition will receive the "Happy Wanderer Set," which includes in-game items to facilitate the adventure. Meanwhile, those with save data from Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake will be able to access special outfits for their characters.
Special and collector's editions

For the most dedicated fans, Square Enix will offer an exclusive Collector's Edition that includes the physical game, character and monster figures, cosmetic items, and digital wallpapers.

Additionally, a digital collection called Dragon Quest HD-2D Erdrick Trilogy Collection will be released, which will include the remakes of Dragon Quest I, II, and III for a price of $99.99.
