The first season of Nicolás Varrone in Formula 2 came to an unexpected end. The Argentine, who had made the leap to single-seaters after standing out for several years in endurance racing, announced that he will not continue competing with Van Amersfoort Racing in the last three races of the 2026 championship.

Through his social media, the driver explained that the decision was made by mutual agreement with the Dutch team. "Today it's time to close a chapter. After an intense year, my team and I decided not to continue with the 2026 Formula 2 calendar with Van Amersfoort Racing," he communicated. "It was not an easy decision, but we believe it is the right path to move forward and think about what comes next for my career," he added.

The Argentine also took the opportunity to thank those who were present during his first complete experience in the category. "Heartfelt thanks to the entire team, our sponsors and collaborators, and especially to all of you who were always on the other side, cheering and supporting, even in the most difficult moments," he expressed.

The farewell also included a special acknowledgment. "A very special thanks to the Villagomez Family, for welcoming us with such warmth and for supporting us in an incredible way throughout this journey," he highlighted.

Varrone's arrival in Formula 2 represented a significant change in his career. The Argentine joined Van Amersfoort Racing at the end of 2025 to face his first full campaign in single-seaters, after building much of his journey in the World Endurance Championship. Indeed, he had achieved some of his greatest successes there. In 2023, he became the FIA WEC world champion in the LMGTE Am category and also won the 24 Hours of Le Mans within that division one year later.

During his debut season in the competition prior to Formula 1, the Argentine managed to score 15 points and had his best results with a 4th place in the Miami Sprint race and a 6th and 10th place in the main races in Montréal, where he also achieved the fastest lap, and Italy, respectively.

His decision means he will not participate in the last races of the calendar, which includes the dates in Baku, Qatar, and Abu Dhabi. For now, the driver has not revealed what his next destination will be, although he made it clear that he is already working on what comes next. "I hope to be able to tell you very soon about my future. Eternal thanks for the support," he concluded.
