The intense storm that has been affecting the Metropolitan Area of Buenos Aires (AMBA) since this Friday continues to cause complications. In addition to persistent rain, gusts of wind, and flooding in various parts of the region, power outages have left thousands of homes without service.

According to the latest report published by the National Electricity Regulatory Entity (ENRE), more than 60,000 users remain without electricity due to the weather conditions.

How many users are without electricity supply?

According to the most recent update from ENRE, the power outages are distributed among the two main distributors in the AMBA:

  • Edesur: 55,021 users without service.

  • Edenor: 8,456 affected users.

The interruptions occur amid the severe storm affecting the region, which has also caused complications in traffic, flooded streets, and fallen branches and trees in various areas.

Which areas are most affected?

In the concession area of Edesur, the greatest inconveniences are reported in:

  • Almagro.

  • Monte Grande.

  • Canning.

  • Florencio Varela.

  • Alejandro Korn.

Meanwhile, within the area of Edenor, the main outages are concentrated in:

  • Villa Urquiza.

  • Martínez.

  • Tigre.

  • Olivos.

  • The companies are working to restore the supply, although the progress of the storms could hinder repair efforts.

How to check if there is a power outage in your area?

Users can check the status of the electricity service through the interactive map of ENRE, which provides real-time information on the number of affected customers and the type of interruption.

The platform allows users to check:

    • Ongoing supply outages.

    • Scheduled interruptions for maintenance work.

    • Failures in medium and low voltage networks.

    • Status of the service by area.

As long as the weather alert continues, authorities recommend avoiding unnecessary travel, staying away from fallen wires, and following official information regarding the evolution of the storm and the restoration of electricity service.

What to do if the power goes out during a storm?

In the event of a power outage during a severe storm, authorities recommend staying calm and taking some precautions to avoid accidents. The first step is to unplug sensitive appliances and electronic devices, such as televisions, computers, and microwaves, to prevent damage when the service is restored.

It is also advisable to leave one light on to know when electricity returns. If the outage occurs at night, it is recommended to use battery-powered flashlights instead of candles to illuminate the rooms, as the latter increase the risk of fires. Additionally, it is important to avoid unnecessarily opening the refrigerator and freezer to keep the food cold for as long as possible.

If there are flooded streets or fallen wires, one should not leave the home unless absolutely necessary. If a wire is observed on the ground or in contact with water, it is recommended to stay away and immediately notify the electricity distributor or emergency services.

Finally, it is essential to stay informed through the official channels of the National Meteorological Service (SMN), the National Electricity Regulatory Entity (ENRE), Civil Defense, and the energy distribution companies to know the evolution of the storm and the status of the service.
