President Javier Milei will receive OpenAI executives to announce a billion-dollar investment in AI that will position Argentina as a global hub of innovation

Javier Milei's government is moving forward with a new milestone in its policy of opening up to the world and promoting technological investment. This Tuesday, the President will receive top executives from OpenAI, the company behind ChatGPT, at Casa Rosada to announce a multi-billion dollar investment in artificial intelligence (AI) that will make Argentina a regional leader in innovation and clean energy.

Chris Lehane, Director of Global Affairs; Benjamín Schwarz, Manager of Partnerships and Infrastructure Policy; Mohammed Husain, Solutions Engineer; Ivy Shindewolf, Head of International Policy and Alliances; and Nicolás Andrade, Public Policy Lead for Latin America, will participate in the meeting.

The meeting was coordinated by Demian Reidel, one of the most influential officials in the government's technology agenda, who is driving the integration of AI with national energy and nuclear development.

OpenAI's decision is part of a global expansion strategy aimed at establishing computing centers with low environmental impact, and Argentina—thanks to its energy and scientific potential—emerges as a natural partner.

In a recent report, the company highlighted that the country "is exploring a data-driven strategy powered by nuclear energy, according to the INVAP ACR-300 SMR model in Atucha," which would allow Patagonia to become a hub for clean and sustainable computing.

This approach aligns with President Milei's vision, who has stated that artificial intelligence, energy, and economic freedom will be the three pillars for Argentina's growth during his administration. With this investment, Argentina is consolidating itself as a strategic ally of the Western world in technology and energy.

What is OpenAI and why its arrival is key

OpenAI is one of the most influential companies on the planet. Founded in 2015 in San Francisco, it is responsible for developing ChatGPT, DALL·E, Codex, and Whisper, tools that have transformed the way the world works, learns, and creates.

The company has a valuation exceeding 300 billion dollars and counts Microsoft as a strategic partner, with whom it keeps an investment agreement of more than 10 billion dollars.

The arrival in Argentina strengthens the country's integration into the knowledge economy, in line with the national government's plans to attract investments that generate quality jobs, promote innovation, and leverage the country's energy potential.

Economic and technological impact in the country

According to OpenAI data, the adoption of artificial intelligence tools in Argentina is tripling year over year and already reaches millions of users, companies, and public agencies.

The company's internal study reveals that 84% of Argentine SMEs that incorporated ChatGPT recorded a 40% increase in productivity, showing the direct impact on the real economy.

Additionally, Buenos Aires stands out as one of the most advanced cities in AI integration in the public sector, with successful experiences such as Boti and PROMETEA, which have reduced the workload and accelerated citizen services.

Nuclear energy and artificial intelligence: Argentina's new frontier

One of the most innovative aspects of the agreement is the focus on clean energy and low-carbon computing. The INVAP ACR-300 SMR project, in the Atucha area, seeks to anchor digital growth in sustainable nuclear energy, with the possibility of scaling it regionally.

This would transform the country into a strategic enclave for the West in artificial intelligence and energy technology.
