The Government extended the intervention of Casa de Moneda for 120 days.
The measure aims to complete the transfer of strategic areas and address the entity's delicate financial situation
The national government decided to extend the intervention of the Casa de Moneda Sociedad Anónima Unipersonal (S.A.U.) for 120 days, through Decree 615/2025, published this Monday in the Official Gazette. The appointment of the trustee, Pedro Daniel Cavagnaro, was also ratified in the regulation.
The resolution is based on the report submitted by Cavagnaro on August 26, where he warned that the operational and administrative complexity made it impossible to complete the transfer of personnel and assets to the receiving agencies within the established deadlines.
Restructuring underway
The transformation of Casa de Moneda began in December 2024, when the former State Corporation became Casa de Moneda S.A.U. with a new corporate charter approved "ad referendum" of the Executive Branch.

Since then, the trustee pointed out the existence of overstaffing in key areas, high operating costs at its industrial plants, and imported equipment that has not been installed. In addition, there was an unfinished investment that caused debt and an internal structure with overlapping functions.
Loss of contracts and financial crisis
The situation worsened in October 2024, when the Central Bank of the Argentine Republic (BCRA) terminated the contract for the production of circulating money. Without that income, the entity became dependent on contributions from the National Treasury to sustain its operations.
Later, the termination of agreements related to the supply of license plates further impacted the income flow. Facing this scenario, Cavagnaro recommended adjustments in staffing and reduction of production costs.
Transfer of strategic areas

With Law 27,742 of Bases as a framework, Decree 442/2025 established the reorganization of Casa de Moneda and the transfer of several functions:
- Fiscal Control and traceability instruments → Revenue and Customs Control Agency (ARCA).
- Passports → National Registry of Persons (RENAPER).
- Virtual Wallet → State-owned company ARSAT.
After these changes, Casa de Moneda became focused on the production of circulating money and valuable species, as well as assisting in the safekeeping, destruction, and disposal of out-of-circulation banknotes, and the production of printed materials for public and private organizations.
Outlook going forward
With this new extension, the government seeks to orderly complete the restructuring and ensure the continuity of essential services. However, the entity's delicate economic situation poses an essential challenge to its future viability.
