
The terrible images of the flood in Bahía Blanca: more than 40 families evacuated
The storm left flooded streets, evacuees, and chaos in Bahía Blanca. More rain is expected in the coming hours.
An unprecedented storm hits Bahía Blanca. The city was submerged after the intense storm of rain and wind. Authorities activated emergency operations while it is expected that the rainfall will continue.
Since early Friday morning, Bahía Blanca has been suffering the impact of a strong storm that left more than 200 millimeters (7.87 inches) of rain in a few hours. The situation is critical in several areas of the city.
Alerta Roja en Bahía Blanca
As the water advanced, at least 40 families were evacuated. Additionally, it is expected that between 50 and 100 millimeters (1.97 and 3.94 inches) more will fall in the coming hours.
Suspension of classes, transportation, and public activities
To reduce risks, the Municipality of Bahía Blanca suspended classes at the initial, primary, and secondary levels. The National University of the South also interrupted its activities.
Other measures taken:
- Suspension of public transportation.
- Closure of day centers, sports centers, and clubs.
- Restriction of circulation in public spaces.

Evacuation centers for affected families
Several evacuation centers were enabled to assist those affected:
- Belén Street (Güemes 250).
- Sansinena Club in General Daniel Cerri.
- Natan Center in Villa Caracol.
- Division of the V Army Corps in Florida 1450.
Bahía Blanca Hospital, overwhelmed by water
The Dr. José Penna Interzonal General Acute Hospital was one of the most affected. The emergency room, the basement, and the parking lots were flooded, hindering medical attention.

National Highway requests not to travel on affected routes
Defense Minister Luis Petri communicated with Mayor Federico Susbielles to coordinate the assistance of the Armed Forces.
Land and water evacuation vehicles are operational:
- Unimog, Robus, and BMW trucks.
- Boats from Company 603 Commandos for rescuing people.

The 181 Communications Battalion is already receiving evacuees. Meanwhile, the Puerto Belgrano Naval Base and the Punta Alta base were enabled to provide shelter during the crisis.
