
Mar del Plata under water: the images of the storm and the lightning that struck Miramar
The city was left underwater after an intense storm with electrical activity.
This Wednesday afternoon, a strong storm broke out in Mar del Plata, causing flooding in various neighborhoods and complications in traffic. Despite the yellow alert issued by the National Meteorological Service (SMN), the phenomenon took many residents by surprise.
Around 3:30 PM, an intense rain with electrical activity began, causing storm drains to collapse and streets to become completely flooded. The water quickly advanced in key areas such as the Port, Güemes, Juan B. Justo, and the downtown.

The storm hit hard not only in the downtown but also in the outskirts. Residents of the west and south areas reported dirt roads completely impassable, complicating access to their homes.
According to Alfredo Rodríguez, head of Civil Defense, no evacuation calls were recorded, although some areas were more affected than others. "The most affected areas were Vértiz and Édison, Arenales and Juan B. Justo, 39th and the coast, as well as the macrocenter," he detailed.

In the midst of the storm, a high-intensity lightning struck in the city of Miramar, located a few kilometers from Mar del Plata. The moment was captured on video, shocking witnesses due to the proximity of the impact.

Recommendations during the storm
Local authorities recommend that residents take precautions during the storm. Among the main safety measures suggested are:
- Avoid going out if not necessary.
- Do not travel on flooded streets.
- Remove objects that could be blown away from balconies and patios.
- In case of emergency, contact Civil Defense at 103 or the Emergency Medical Care System at 107.
The storm highlighted the issue of storm drains clogged with debris, which hindered water drainage.
