This Wednesday afternoon, a strong storm broke out in Mar del Plata, causing flooding in various neighborhoods and complications in traffic. Despite the yellow alert issued by the National Meteorological Service (SMN), the phenomenon took many residents by surprise.
Around 3:30 PM, an intense rain with electrical activity began, causing storm drains to collapse and streets to become completely flooded. The water quickly advanced in key areas such as the Port, Güemes, Juan B. Justo, and the downtown.
The areas most affected by the storm
The storm hit hard not only in the downtown but also in the outskirts. Residents of the west and south areas reported dirt roads completely impassable, complicating access to their homes.
According to Alfredo Rodríguez, head of Civil Defense, no evacuation calls were recorded, although some areas were more affected than others. "The most affected areas were Vértiz and Édison, Arenales and Juan B. Justo, 39th and the coast, as well as the macrocenter," he detailed.
