The United Kingdom defended the self-determination of the inhabitants of the Falkland Islands

After decades of inaction and complacency from Kirchnerist governments that dismantled the homeland and destroyed our wealth, the Argentina of freedom raises its voice to reaffirm its legitimate and imprescriptible sovereignty over the Malvinas Islands, usurped by force in 1833. President Javier Milei did not mince words in burying any pirate pretensions: he clearly stated that the kelpers constitute "an implanted population in usurped territory", which invalidates any claim based on referendums held on the islands.

In response to this irrefutable paradigm shift, Downing Street did not take long to react, revealing the deep fear of the British leadership. A spokesperson for Prime Minister Andy Burnham was forced to militarize the discourse, warning almost theatrically that "our armed forces are on alert 24 hours a day, seven days a week, to protect the United Kingdom and our interests".

The usurping government desperately clung to the worn collectivist argument of self-determination of the islanders, a convenient rhetorical shield of leftist origin to try to justify the imminent start of the offshore project Sea Lion, illegally operated by Navitas Petroleum and Rockhopper Exploration to appropriate our oil reserves.

According to the condescending British spokesperson, the supposed self-determination of the implanted inhabitants "extends to the right to exploit their natural resources". This forced defense of the "right to choose" deliberately ignores the UN resolutions that have prohibited unilateral actions in the area for the past 50 years until the controversy is resolved.

The Argentine counteroffensive has forced the main pawns of British labor progressivism to make urgent statements for the consumption of their own domestic politics. The Minister of Defense, Wes Streeting, resorting to the classic manual of imperial disdain, accused on social media that the firm message from Javier Milei "speaks more of Argentine internal politics than of the Malvinas Islands".

Wes Streeting sought to reaffirm the worn colonial discourse by stating that "the Malvinas are British because the inhabitants of the Malvinas choose to be British", categorizing his country's commitment to the archipelago as "absolute and unbreakable".

Hours later, the British Chancellor, Ed Miliband, added his voice to this line of progressive defense, declaring on social media X that the islands will remain under their control due to the "overwhelming will of their inhabitants". Ed Miliband insisted that the supposed right to self-determination of the islanders "is paramount, is based on international law, and we will defend it firmly".

This chorus of colonial bureaucrats attempted to sustain their weak moral framework by citing the fraudulent referendum held on the islands 13 years ago, in 2013, where the British colonial administration boasted that 99.8% of voters chose to remain under the status of British Overseas Territory. What these officials omit is that the consultation lacks any validity under international law, as an implanted population does not possess legitimate sovereign rights.

In line with this narrative, the representative of the island government to the United Kingdom and Europe, Richard Hyslop, attempted to bolster this fallacy by citing the UN Charter to assert that "the only people who can decide the future of the Malvinas are the islanders themselves".

Meanwhile, the president of the Legislative Assembly of the islands, Jack Ford, attempted to arrogantly downplay the Argentine decision by stating that the local reaction is that "this is nothing new" and that the oil companies involved in the Sea Lion field are "very used" to these pressures and will continue their illegal activity.

However, British arrogance collides head-on with a global scenario that has ceased to be docile to them. A worried British labor parliamentarian, James MacCleary, did not hide his panic and impotence by calling for unity to "reject these reckless and dangerous threats from Milei", crudely labeling the Argentine president as "a paper tiger" who supposedly seeks to "divert attention from his own internal failures".

The truth is that the "paper tiger" has caused the very leader of the United States, President Donald Trump, to question the unconditional military support for London, criticizing the lack of British reciprocity in the face of the threat from Iran and declaring that his country is reevaluating its historical stance of neutrality.
