Washington mobilizes its flagship while Maduro orders military maneuvers
U.S. President Donald Trump ordered the deployment of the USS Gerald R. Ford, the largest and most powerful aircraft carrier on the planet, to Caribbean waters to reinforce Southern Command operations against regional drug trafficking and increase pressure on Nicolás Maduro's regime.
The nuclear vessel, accompanied by the destroyers USS Bainbridge, USS Mahan, and USS Winston S. Churchill, officially entered the SouthCom operations zone, which covers the Caribbean, the Atlantic, and part of the Pacific. According to the Pentagon, this force "will increase the capacity to disrupt narcotics trafficking and dismantle transnational criminal organizations."

Trump's decision is part of a maximum pressure offensive against the so-called Cártel de los Soles, a cocaine trafficking network that Washington directly attributes to senior Chavista officials. The U.S. government accuses Maduro of leading this criminal structure and is offering 50 million dollars for information leading to his capture.
The USS Gerald R. Ford is a true floating fortress with more than 5,000 crew members, a nuclear reactor, and the capacity to deploy more than 75 aircraft, including F/A-18 Super Hornet fighters and E-2 Hawkeye early warning planes. The Pentagon describes it as "the most capable, adaptable, and lethal combat platform in the world."
The arrival of the Ford brings the number of U.S. warships present in the Caribbean to more than a dozen, an unprecedented deployment since the Gulf War. In response, Maduro ordered massive military exercises under the so-called "Plan Independencia 200," mobilizing land, sea, and air troops in what Caracas defined as "defense against imperial aggression."
In recent months, the Trump administration has launched selective strikes against vessels used for drug trafficking, resulting in dozens of casualties among the crew members. Military sources indicate that the new operation could extend to land targets linked to Venezuelan drug trafficking, such as clandestine airstrips and ports.

International analysts interpret the maneuver as a direct warning to the Chavista regime. The deployment not only seeks to halt the flow of drugs to the United States but also to consolidate U.S. leadership in the region and force Maduro to relinquish power without an open invasion.
While Caracas speaks of an "imperial invasion," U.S. naval power dominates the Caribbean as a clear demonstration of strength and capability. Washington's message is clear: drug trafficking sponsored by dictatorships will no longer be tolerated in the Western Hemisphere.
