The cycle of Luis de la Fuente at the helm of the Spanish National Team will continue during the upcoming major challenges of international football. After a period marked by titles and historic results, the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) has moved forward with the renewal of the coach, who will extend his contract and also receive a significant improvement in his economic conditions.
Rafael Louzán, president of the organization, confirmed on Wednesday that negotiations are practically complete. During a conversation with José Félix Díaz, director of diario AS, at the World Football Summit, the leader highlighted the work done by the coach and explained that his new contract is close to being formalized. "We have the best coach in history based on the titles that support him, his personality, his work, and his effectiveness. The Spanish public loves and admires him," Louzán stated regarding the coach.
De la Fuente had a contract valid until Euro 2028, but the RFEF decided to move forward with an extension after the successes achieved during his management. Under his leadership, Spain won the Nations League 2023, Euro 2024, and World Cup 2026.

In addition to extending his stay, the Federation aims to substantially improve the coach's salary, which was currently not among the highest-paid coaches. "I offered him the possibility to extend and improve his contract, as was logical, because he was not in the top 10 of the best-paid. And he will be now, because we are finalizing the agreement for De la Fuente to be with us for a few more years," Louzan commented.
The new contract would allow the coach to go through a particularly significant period for Spanish football. If the agreement is completed until 2032, he will lead the national team during the Euro 2028, the World Cup 2030, where Spain will be one of the hosts, and the Euro 2032.
The announcement of the renewal came just two days before De la Fuente reveals his first list of call-ups for the group stage of the Nations League. La Roja will concentrate on Tuesday, September 22, and will have four commitments ahead: they will visit England on Saturday the 26th at Wembley, host Croatia on Tuesday the 29th in Seville, face Czech Republic on Saturday the 3rd of October in Oviedo, and close against the Croats on Tuesday the 6th in Split.
