Anthony Blinken was expelled from an exclusive beach in East Hampton after he ignored several security orders

New York's tri-state area beaches finally reopened on Saturday after Hurricane Erin passed through, but the reopening came a day too late for former U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken, who was expelled from Georgica Beach, an exclusive East Hampton beach, on Friday, when the access ban was still in effect due to the dangerous surf caused by the storm.

As could be seen in several published photographs, Blinken, 63 years old, was enjoying the sun on the beach with a friend when a lifeguard patrol approached to order them to leave the area.

In the images, he is seen barefoot, wearing a long-sleeved blue jersey and black shorts, gathering his belongings, a canvas bag, a beach towel, and a folding chair, before heading to the parking lot in what was described as a "walk of shame."

Although Hurricane Erin had already moved away from the region, many beaches remained closed on Friday due to the storm's residual effects, such as strong rip currents and dangerous waves. On Saturday, most beaches reopened, although in some areas swimming restrictions were still in place.

Georgica Beach, located at the southern end of East Hampton's Apaquogue neighborhood, is a regular destination for surfers and wealthy residents, and Blinken is a frequent visitor.

It is recalled that he was also on vacation in the same place on August 15, 2021, just as the Taliban took control of Kabul,Afghanistan. Back then, Blinken interrupted his break and returned to his diplomatic duties to try to manage the crisis.

His father, Donald Blinken, former U.S. ambassador to Hungary during Bill Clinton's administration, lived seasonally for more than 50 years on Lily Pond Lane, also in East Hampton.

Hurricane Erin formed in the Caribbean, reaching category 5 (the highest on the Saffir-Simpson scale) and becoming one of the largest storms ever recorded, with a diameter of approximately 800 kilometers (497 miles).

Although the storm's center remained more than 1,000 kilometers (621 miles) from New York's coast, its enormous size wreaked havoc along the U.S. East Coast, creating dangerous conditions at sea, including strong currents and waves that forced beach closures in several states.

Some beaches on the New Jersey coast remained closed on Saturday for cleaning and restoration work, according to local reports.
